CAFOD (the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development)
CAFOD is the official Catholic aid agency for England and Wales, and is part of Caritas International, the Church’s worldwide organization dedicated to alleviating need and distress. Year after year, we promote long-term development, respond to emergencies, raise awareness of poverty, speak out on behalf of poor communities, and promote social justice
Our work is broad-ranging, across countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, helping the world’s poorest communities, and those affected by conflict or natural disaster.
We also use funds to increase awareness of the causes of poverty, helping people campaign to bring about change, and to speak out on behalf of poor communities, challenging governments and international bodies to promote equality and justice.
At present, activity within St Joseph’s is largely concerned with the two annual Fast Day collections – in Lent and at Harvest Time, but we are always on the look-out for further activities, and to this end work closely with the One World Group.
