One World Group

The One World Group has two aims. The first is to try to make people, both within the group itself and in the wider sense the whole parish to which we belong, aware of poverty and injustice in the world not only in the poorer countries such as South America, India and Africa but also at home. In that sense the One World Group is the whole parish because they are the real supporters of the projects we sponsor.

Our second aim is to try and do something about that poverty and injustice. To this end we organise various fundraising activities, with two main appeals during the year. In the main we support four specific projects on a regular basis.

The first one is a project in Southern India run by a Franciscan called Brother James. There the people are desperately poor but with donations from people like us he can help them find water and dig wells and build very basic homes.

The second is the activities of Father Paul, a Jesuit working in Guyana. As well as being a parish priest, he travels extensively on a three month itinerary. One of his projects is a clean water supply for his area.

Our third project is the work being done by Sister Sylvia, a missionary working in Bolivia. Like Brother James and Father Paul she lives among people struggling to survive with very little, and she works especially with children and teenagers.

Fourthly, recognising that there is also poverty and need in our local community, we support one-off projects and local organisations working with disadvantaged people in Malvern.
