Some key points from the letter written to St Joseph's Parish, Malvern by the Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham, Robert Byrne, to be read and distributed on the weekend of 21st-22nd July 2018.

The Bishop asks that we be understanding of the fact that, with the retirement of 12 priests in the Diocese, it is likely that the Worcester Deanery will be asked to meet the needs of our parish during August and into the Autumn. We are fortunate, though, that a new Parish Priest can be sent to us. He will be able to join us by the end of this calendar year.

As a temporary measure the 10.00am Mass will be THE ONLY weekend mass at St Joseph’s. The Bishop knows that all of the above may cause disappointment and asks for our understanding as the reduced number of clergy across the deanery seeks to cover pastoral and liturgical needs over the period stipulated above.

The Bishop reminds us that there are Saturday masses at:

  • St. George’s Worcester at 12.30
  • St Wulstan’s, Little Malvern, at 5.00pm
  • Our Blessed Lady and St. Alphonsus, Blackmore Park, at 6.30

We will add more information when it becomes available.

[Updated 1/9/18]

Masses and times will continue to be at 10.00am on Sundays (with confession time afterwards) and 7.00pm on Thursday evenings. In addition, there will also be mass on Mondays at 12.00 noon most weeks. The latter will be replaced by a Eucharistic service when Fr. John is unavailable. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will continue from 9.00am until 7.00pm on Thursdays. It is likely that these arrangements will remain for the foreseeable future. There will be NO mass here on Saturday evenings.
