About This Week's Mass

SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR C

22nd- 23rd February 2025 – Parish Mass Book Page number 141

1 Samuel 26:2, 7-9, 12-13, 22-23 Psalm 102 1 Cor 15:45-49 Luke 6:27-38

MAKING RIGHT CHOICES - The first reading shows David making the right choice, respecting God’s anointed king by forgiving his offenses. Saul on the other hand continues to make the wrong choices. He is imprisoned in his own misery of seeking his revenge. In the Psalm we meet God’s mercy and compassion which we should practice in our choices. St. Paul tells us how the “First Adam” made a wrong choice of disobedience, bringing death into the world, whereas Jesus, the “Second Adam,” made the right choice of fulfilling his Father’s saving plan for mankind by accepting acute suffering and a heinous death. The Gospel gives us the “Golden Rule” and our obligation to be loving, forgiving, merciful, and compassionate: “Do to others as you would have them do to you.” To this Jesus gives additional commands of radical Christian love. He orders us to love our enemies and to be merciful and compassionate to everyone as God our Father is loving, merciful, and compassionate. He concludes by instructing us to stop judging others and start forgiving all who offend us.
