ONE WORLD GROUP APPEAL
This weekend, the Parish One World Group will be making an appeal to the Parish. The Group has been continuing to expand, with a stronger emphasis on peace and justice issues. Our work also now includes poverty and inequality, community and outreach, peace and reconciliation and the environment. The Parish has always been very generous in its support for its work through the One World Group, and now we are appealing for funds to help us continue our work. Firstly, by continuing our support for our ‘traditional’ partners - Sister Sylvia in Bolivia, Reaching the Unreached in India and local charities such as Christians against Poverty. Secondly by arranging a series of events over the next few months to help us better understand problems and challenges that people face around the world, including in this country. There is more information about the OWG on the noticeboard in the narthex.
150TH ANNIVERSARY MASS CELEBRATING OUR BENEDICTINE LEGACY SATURDAY 14TH FEBRUARY AT 12 NOON
This Mass will mark the opening celebration of the 150th Anniversary. We have invited Dom Anselm of the Community of St Gregory the Great, formerly based at
Downside Abbey in Somerset. It is the Downside Abbey Monks who started St Joseph’s Church in 1876. Dom Anselm and others have moved over to Belmont to discern their future exploring the possibility of a merger with Belmont Abbey. Dom Anselm will lead us with Mass at 12 noon joined by other monks. This Mass will replace the usual 6pm vigil Mass on this day. Following the Mass, we shall have an exhibition organised by the PAC taking us back into what St Joseph was before our times. We shall also have refreshments afterwards and closing with Adoration and Benediction at 3pm. This first event is to recognise the contribution the monks made in establishing the community in which we are part of today. Please do come and contribute to the refreshments (a list of what is needed will be shared next weekend).
150TH ANNIVERSARY UPDATE
Mary Taylor will be speaking at Mass at 11am Mass this Sunday 25th with an update about our 150th anniversary celebrations. One of the plans is a display of photos. If you have any pictures of events or masses at St Joseph's, please could you email digital copies to 150stjosephs@gmail.com or leave physical copies in an envelope in the Narthex, which I will scan and return to you.
