PETER CHOSE TO OBEY: In today’s Gospel, we see Jesus preaching from Peter’s boat to a large crowd. When the teaching had ended, Jesus told Peter to pull out into deeper water for a catch of fish. In matters of fishing, Peter was the expert, while Jesus was only a carpenter. Hence Peter, perhaps not wanting Jesus to look foolish, explained, “Master, we have toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word, I will let down the nests.” So, Peter chose to obey. That declaration of trust was what made the miracle that followed possible. This time, however, instead of pulling up an empty net, Peter and Andrew found the net was filled to bursting point. Peter was able to receive his call because he had seen the tremendous power of God. Today’s Gospel concludes with an inspiring image of commitment: “When they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him

Francis describes human trafficking as “blood money” and a “crime against humanity”. We are all called to combat this evil trade. To find out more and what you can do, go to santamartagroup.org/resources. A link to further information can be found via: Santa Marta Group | St. Bakhita Day

is launching Catholic Social Teaching: An Introduction, an online course for staff and volunteers in parishes. The programme will be spread over five one-hour Zoom sessions on each Tuesday in March and on 01 April 2025. The course is aimed at parishioners who are not so familiar with Catholic Social Teaching, or who would welcome a refresh. We will also be hearing from CSAN members who work on the front line of poverty and exclusion, bringing our theoretical discussions to life. The course fee is £95 for all five sessions, which includes a copy of Raymond Friel’s book, Catholic Social Teaching: An Introduction for Schools, Parishes, and Charities.
