Pope’s Prayer Intention for AUGUST

For mutual coexistence. Let us pray that societies where coexistence seems difficult may not succumb to the temptation of confrontation for ethic, political, religious or ideological reasons.

Please Pray

  • For the Sick and Housebound of St Joseph’s Parish: Clare Gray, Anne Wiseman, Anne-Marie Elder, Elizabeth Docker. We include all those in hospitals, nursing homes & their own homes. Our Lady, health of the sick, pray for them. Amen.

  • For those on the anniversary of their death: Yvonne Rees and Jane Benedetti.

  • For those celebrating their Wedding Anniversary: Rosemary & Tim Thorp.

WHY DO WE BELIEVE IN MARY’S ASSUMPTION INTO HEAVEN

Pope Pius XII in the papal document Munificentimus Deus gives four reasons why we believe in the Dogma of Assumption of Mary. Apart from these we could add a 5th Theological reason.

  1. The uninterrupted tradition about Mary’s death and Assumption starting from the first century.

  2. The belief expressed in all the ancient liturgies of the Church.

  3. The negative evidence of the absence and veneration of a tomb of Mary while most of the apostles have their tombs.

  4. The possibility of bodily assumption warranted in the Old Testament in the cases of Enoch (Gen. 5:24), perhaps Moses (Deut. 34:5), and especially Elijah (II Kg. 2:1).5)

The theological reasons:

  1. The degeneration of the body after death is the consequence of “original sin,” and Mary, as “immaculately conceived,” is exempted from the post-mortem decay of the body.

  2. As receiver of the fullness of grace and holiness because she is mother of Jesus and co-redeemer with Him, Mary’s place is with her son, God’s Son Jesus, the Redeemer, in the abode of holiness, Heaven.

We honour Mary, venerate her, express our love for her and never worship her. (Source: Fr Anthony).

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2026

RCIA/JOURNEY IN FAITH APPLICATION FORMS IN NARTHEX

Everyone is invited to these Tuesday evening sessions on the Catholic Faith. It is a systematic journey, exploring why the Father sent His Eternal Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross, rise again and ascend into heaven by the grace of the Holy Spirit. We will explore how this is connected to the celebration of the Sacraments, and to the way we live our lives as Christians. Everyone is welcome, especially if you are not a Catholic and would like to find out more. The sessions will begin in September. Many thanks, Mrs Carol Ann Harnett

CONFIRMATION 2025/26

Children from Year Six onwards are welcome to register for preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation which will start as schools come back in September. Confirmation will be sometime in January or beginning of February 2026. Application forms are in the Narthex.
